Company Register NZ

The Companies Register is the official register of companies incorporated in New Zealand. It is administered by the New Zealand Companies Office, which is part of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE). Every company incorporated under the Companies Act 1993 appears on the register, along with key information about its status, directors, shareholders and filing history.

The register is public. Anyone can search it to check whether a company exists, whether it is still registered, and who is recorded as its directors and shareholders.

For each registered company, the Companies Register typically records:

• The company's full registered name and any former names
• Its company number and New Zealand Business Number (NZBN)
• Its current status, such as Registered, In Liquidation, In Receivership or Removed
• The date of incorporation
• The registered office and address for service
• Current and former directors, with their appointment and resignation dates
• Shareholders and share allocations
• Annual return filing history
• Registered documents, such as the constitution if one has been filed

The information on the register is supplied by the companies themselves. The Companies Office records what is filed; it does not verify every detail at the time of filing.

A company search looks up the register using a company name, company number or NZBN. A name search returns companies whose names match what you typed, including similar or historical names. Searching by company number or NZBN is more precise because those identifiers are unique to one company.
